Although I never had the pleasure of reading any Tarzan comics, my father, a movie fan, exposed me to the black and white Tarzan movies. Working from the descriptions in the books and my imagination, I always thought Tarzan should appear more lean, sinewy & muscular. Here’s my first attempt at putting pencils & pen to drawing my version of Tarzan.

Another commission involving my interpretation of a published cover – John Carter, Warlord of Mars, Issue 1. When an avid collector of Edgar Rice Burroughs Mars artwork approached me about this project, I was thrilled to try my hand at drawing follow-up to my recent attempt at creating my interpretation of ERB’s Barsoom.
As mentioned in posted in an earlier post, I tried my hand at illustrating my own interpretation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs’ vision for the characters, working entirely from his text in Princess of Mars.

Some of my notes from the text:
The Work-In-Progress pencils of my Princess of Mars illustration. I’ve been itching to try my own interpretation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs’ vision for the characters, working entirely from his text in Princess of Mars. Although it was challenging, I did the best I could to shy away from becoming influenced by other existing interpretations, including the latest Disney’s movie John Carter.
Final Pencils (Updated 03/14/2012):
